How to take a Civil Service Test
If you’ve never taken a civil service test or can use help to improve your past scores, review how to take a civil service test.
Civil service tests are given periodically and sometimes only as often as every two years. Civil service tests are timed tests. Your test score is the difference between a government job or waiting to take the test again.
If one or more of the following describe you, invest in a test study guide:
- I haven’t taken a test in a long time.
- I don’t know what to expect on the civil service test.
- I’m not a good test taker.
The more you practice, the more comfortable and better prepared you’ll be taking the test. In addition, to practice, practice, practice, here are rules to follow:
- Start preparing early so you don’t have to cram.
- Practice with a time limit while creating a test-like environment. For example, practice at a desk without any music or other media on.
- Arrive at the test site early with your test notification.
What should I bring to a civil service test?
- You’ll be notified as to what you may bring when you are scheduled for the test.
